ESKOM ATTACHES EMFULENI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY BANK ACCOUNT

The Gauteng High Court handed down a judgement on a repayment agreement matter between Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) and Eskom on (Tuesday, 02 September 2021). This led to the attachment of municipal current bank account.

The courts ruled in favour of Eskom on Wednesday (29 September 2021), ELM applied for leave of appeal in a bid to effectively halt the bank account attachment without success.

The municipality has petitioned the Supreme Court of Appeal. It is in this light that the municipality views this this execution by Eskom as premature for the reason that the matter is yet to reach its logical conclusion before the court of law. .

The municipality has further approached Eskom attorneys and filing of necessary documentation for submission is underway. The aim is to ensure that the attachment of the bank account is lifted. This will help ensure that the municipality continues to deliver services to its consumers as mandated.

ELM remains committed to resolving this matter amicably in the interest of its consumers. The municipality is confident that the appeal process will be in favour. The municipality is pleading for patience from all consumers while efforts to find a lasting solution to this matter continue.
