On Tuesday 9 April, The Executive Mayor Radebe began his midterm IDP public participation meeting since Municipal elections of 2021.

In the list the of success for Emfuleni Local Municipality the council continues to bestable under the leadership of a coalition that is made up of political parties said the Mayor Sipho Radebe.

This year's IDP and budget public participation meeting are held under the theme “mastering the art of implementation through consolidation, co-operative Government, service delivery and fiscal displine”.

The secret for Emfuleni Local Municipality is a mutual agreement reached amongst all the political parties to promote service delivery not their political parties differences.

The Executive Mayor Radebe said “the filling of the vacancies of senior management is above 70% since the previous IDP report back meeting. Now the focus is to expedite the process to finish the remaining in other levels, with the recent appointment of the Chief Operations Officer.

The purpose for the IDP and budget public participation is the executive mayor’s to make presentation for the new Municipal tariff for the new financial year starting in July and job creation

Greatest achievement so far is the completion of 40 major artery road’s across Emfuleni including Waterdal road notorious for road’s fatalities. The second phase of another 40 is underway working with provincial government.

The proposed revenue collection is projected to 79% .

To confront the current situation of low 20% revenue collection of households, The Municipality is committing R79 million to buy new fleet. In pursuit for revenue collection to date Municipality has installed 3 500 new electricity meters boxes" said Mayor Radebe.

The Executive Mayor also encouraged people to report to the presidential hotline on the allegations of corruption fraud and maladministration.

Work is in progress on the SEZ which is supported by the national government to rebuild the Vaal economy. Solar farms for 50ha for the establishment of 30MW for solar farms the Mayor explained, for Metsi a Lekoa water services, Rand Water has assisted with the new fleet of vehicles, and this has helped the municipality with the turnaround time on service delivery.

Emfuleni Local Municipality has experienced a population growth and the biggest challenge is the rate of unemployment estimated at 56%.

Below is the proposed tariff increases,

Property rate 4,9%

Water 5,9%

Sanitation 4,9%

Electricity 10.74%

Refuse removal 4,9%

Other tariff 4,9%

The increases are in line with CPI projected up to 4,9%,  some are subject to approval by the NERSA electricity regulator.

The Executive Mayor admitted that the council still continues to confront the challenges of unemployed people. Unemployed families should come forward and sign up for the municipal indigent policy in order to be eligible for free basic services such as electricity and water.

This IDP public participation was held at At Mafatsane thusong government service.

For the month of April a total of eight public meetings are going to take place across Emfuleni Local Municipality with different sectors.
