The Emfuleni
Municipality launched an innovative fleet management
system to avoid reckless use of R70million worth of
fleet. In an event held recently to launch the state
of the art Risk Control Room, at the Vaal Technorama,
the Executive Mayor, Councillor Dikeledi hailed this
system as a major success. She indicated that the system
has already started saving the municipality approximately
R450 000 per month on fuel and maintenance. This is
according to estimates done by the department and service
providers. In addition the system boasts the following
features which will greatly improve fleet management
in the Municipality:
- Service Schedule
- Licence expiry
- Accidents and where they occur and details of the
driver involved
- Trip information on each vehicle
- Driver information on trips and events
- Fuel transactions
- Parts warranties and job cards
The Fleet management Section has already acknowledged
an improvement various areas including roadworthiness
of vehicles. Unlike in the past all Emfuleni Fleet is
now roadworthy thanks to the new Risk Control Room.
Apparently before the introduction of the control room
almost 36% of the total fleet was not roadworthy.
Breaking with tradition, the event was also used to
give awards to best drivers who have performed their
duties with distinction. The awards were introduced
to motivate drivers to take good care of the vehicles
that are assigned to them.
