22 January 2013 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality is faced with serious challenges regarding municipal debt due to non-payment of services by residents. This problem is negatively affecting the Municipality’s ability to effectively render services to its communities.
The current debt due to non payment by consumers in standing at two-point-seven (2,7) billion rand and is increasing daily. For the past six months, the payment levels are sitting at 89%. Of great concern is that not only the poorest sections of our communities owe the Municipality, but also the wealthy sections of our communities.
PSV Eindhoven coaches to conduct coaching clinics in Emfuleni

07 December 2012 - As part of the twinning programme between the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), the Municipality of Eindhoven in the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven FC and the Royal Netherlands Football Association, youth coaches from PSV Eindhoven and the Royal Netherlands Football Association, will conduct youth football coaching clinics for two weeks in Emfuleni.
These clinics are focused on the youth under 17 years as part of the two Municipalities’ Soccer Development Programmes. The Coaches will also conduct technical training to the youth trainers in the Vaal. About 35 youth coaches and 45 junior players will receive training daily during the two weeks.

06 December 2012 - The Speaker of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Cllr MP Gqelosha will be meeting with all Ward Commettee members as part of the Annual People’s Assembly.
This interaction is aimed at creating a platform for accountability and transparency by the Municipality. The meeting will take place under the theme “Together we can do more to strengthen the Ward Committee System”.
Emfuleni Local Municipality receives unqualified audit opinion for 2011/2012

30 November 2012 - In what can be described as a historic occurrence, the Emfuleni Local Municipality has attained unqualified audit opinion in the 2011/2012 financial year. This is the most positive audit outcome of the Municipality for the first time in the history of Emfuleni Local Municipality.
The report was handed over to the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Cllr Greta Hlongwane by Mr Paul Serote, Corporate Executive in the Gauteng office of the Auditor General during the handover event held at the Apartheid Museum in Gold Reef in Johannesburg today.
Emfuleni Local Municipality holds public participation meetings

28 November 2012 - The Municipal Demarcation Board on 07 November 2012 issued a media statement indicating that it is considering a proposal for a merger of the Emfuleni Local Municipality and Midvaal Local Municipality.
This was followed by the issuing of a notice in terms of section 26 of the Local Government: Municipal Demarcation Act, 1998 (Act No 27 of 1998). The act requires that the Demarcation Board publish the said notice in the media to allow for public participation based on the proposal to it by various stakeholders.
