The Emfuleni Local Municipality has resolved on 29 January 2010 under Item A2153 also to allow for special incentives up to 50% in terms of its Policy on Recoverable Debt and Writing Off of Irrecoverable Debt to debtor categories other than residential household consumers. These incentives will only apply to applicants who want to settle outstanding /arrear accounts in full and will be for the period 1 March 2010 to November 2010. All debtors in the following categories can lodge applications with the Debt Management Department as from 1 March 2010:  

• Churches
• Non profitable organizations
• Body Corporates
• Schools:
  • Private
  • Government Education (other than section 21 Schools) Only incentive for consumption (water & electricity) and basic services
• Trusts:
  • Residential/Farm/Agricultural and Industrial/Business
• Close Corporations (CC)
  • Residential/Farm/Agricultural and Industrial/Business
• Vacant Stands
  • Residential/Farm/Agricultural and Industrial/Business
• Properties bought on Auction
  • Residential/Farm/Agricultural and Industrial/Business
• All other Businesses and industrial properties

All debtors are therefore encouraged by Emfuleni Local Municipality to take advantage of these incentives and are urged to pay all outstanding and arrear accounts. These benefits may be Council’s last grace to defaulting clients before strict credit control actions are implemented.
