16 August 2010 - The Emfuleni Local Municipality notes with great concern and disbelief the continued reports of burial violations conducted by funeral undertakers in and around Emfuleni. We want to strongly condemn with the contempt it deserves the unprecedented high number of illegal funeral undertakers and illegal cemeteries within our jurisdiction. The reports appear to be an ongoing and malicious campaign by the funeral undertakers to undermine the rights of communities and dignity of the deceased.

05 August 2010  - The 09th August 2010 marks the 54th Anniversary of the historic march to the union buildings. It is in 1956 on this day that valiant women and mothers across the racial divide descended upon the office of then Prime Minister, JG Strydom to demand the abolition of the repressive pass laws.

Thirty eight years later in 1994, the birth of a democratic South Africa based on adult universal suffrage, justice and equality confirmed that the heroic strides of 1956 were not in vain.

Clr Assistance Mshudulu and representatives of Arcelor Mittal during the launch of the Re-roofing project16 July 2010 - The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni,  in Boipatong today. The project is a partnership between Arcelor Mittal and Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). A total of 3367 households will benefit from the over R5million project.

Most of the houses targeted are over forty years old which were leaking during rainy seasons. Another significant aspect of the project includes employment and training of 80 workers from the community of Boipatong and Bophelong. Ms Maggie Mopedi, Manager: Corporate Responsibility at Arcelor Mittal, Gauteng province, indicated that skills gained during the project will assist workers in terms of further employment opportunities in similar projects in the future. She further indicated that about 900 houses have been completed to date.
