50th anniversary of Human Rights Day 16 March 2010 - As announced by President Jacob Zuma in his state of the nation address, South Africa will this year mark the 50th anniversary of Human Rights Day. In order to honour the 180 injured individuals and the 69 heroes and heroines who were killed during the protest, government has decided to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre on 21 March, Human Rights Day at Sharpeville Cricket Pitch next to George Thabe soccer stadium, Gauteng Province.

16 March 2010 - Following your enquiry on the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s meter reading system, the Municipality wishes to place it on record that it renders more than 37-thousand water accounts and more than 25-thousand of electricity to consumers. We are aware of the fact that some accounts will be incorrect due to locked gates as is the case in your enquiry. That is why we encourage consumers to supply the Municipality with readings in cases where access to their premises is prohibited.

25 February 2010 - Following the nomination of two of Emfuleni Local Municipality’s wards to compete in the Provincial Bontle Ke Botho Clean and Green program, Councillors responsible for these Wards will now be receiving awards for keeping their environment clean. Ward 33 and 41 Councillors will receive the awards during a prize giving ceremony to be hosted by the Sedibeng District Municipality. Lesedi Local Municipality Ward Councillors will also receive awards at the ceremony.
